Laser Beam - are they for wrinkles too?
Smile lines, worry lines, bunny lines – they are your badge of honor showing your well-lived life? Or are they simply age lines. Do you want to defy or hide those signs of aging? If your answer is YES! Read on.
One option to think of is laser skin resurfacing also known as laser peel, or laser vaporization. Lasers are very popular treatment for the aging skin. Although laser skin resurfacing can’t tighten severely sagging skin, such as jowls, newer laser treatments can tighten loose skin and in most times are even referred to as “non-surgical facelifts.”
Depending on the target in the skin, it is aimed to repair the appearance of facial wrinkles, remove discolorations from a sun-damaged skin, reduces scars from acne or chicken pox or other blemishes and age spots. It can improve minor flaws such as fine lines around or under the eyes, forehead or mouth. It can perk-up a non-responsive skin after a facelift. It can remove a birthmark such as an epidermal nevi and reduce enlarged oil glands on the nose. After the procedure and some recovery time, you are left with a blemish free, younger, tighter and smoother looking skin.
It’s all about using beams of light and aiming it at the skin. Your doctor aims a beam of light at various layers of the skin during a laser skin procedure in a very precise manner one at a time. This targeted approach means fewer problems.
There are two types of laser skin resurfacing: ablative and non-ablative. Ablative lasers remove the surface of the skin called the epidermis. It simultaneously heats the underlying skin, called the dermis. This action works to stimulate growth of new collagen fibers. As the treated area heals, the new skin that forms is smoother and firmer. The body responds during the healing process by producing more collagen; which generates new layers of skin that are stronger and, look younger.
Non-ablative lasers focus on issues underneath the skin, using a predetermined laser wavelengths to target those spots without harming the surface or surrounding tissues. In place of the damaged skin, younger-looking and clearer skin forms. These lasers are precise and safe. Non ablative laser treatments requires no recovery time. We call the ‘lunch break’ beauty regimen.
Laser treatment is a newer procedure but it is very popular because it avoids many of the harsh chemicals or treatments that older ablative methods use. Lasers give your aesthetic physician a new level of control and provides extreme precision, especially in delicate areas. A word of caution: always make sure that you a going to properly trained, licensed and experienced medical facility for all your skin laser procedures.
